Friday 27th March  2020 – Update for Families

Dear Families,

We would like to start by thanking you all for your on-going support, it has been a pleasure to speak to you all over the past few days and we are very thankful and grateful for all you are doing at home to support your child in these difficult times.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Teachers are keen to support learning at home, but also recognise the importance of prioritising pupil’s and family mental health and wellbeing. We understand that learning at home for some pupils will be challenging and for others will provide much needed routine and occupation.  There are no expectations from school as to the amount or frequency of school work being completed by pupils.  Please use the online home learning resources as you feel appropriate for your child and your circumstances, prioritising the wellbeing of your family.

Online Learning

To find out more about home learning, please go to the school website to find learning tasks and activities for pupils. Teachers have been busy finding interesting activities for the pupils to do and we are doing our best to update these when we can.

In addition to the home learning on our website we have access to some online learning websites that we can use to provide more personalised learning. These all require logins and all work is completed online. If you would like your child to have access to this learning please email mday@southbrook.devon.sch.uk and we will send you the relevant logins. The options we currently have are:

MyMaths

Provides online powerpoint-style lessons to work through with accompanying online homework. The homework should be completed online but some of the homework tasks will require pupils to do working out using a paper/pen.

MathsWatch

Provides short online video-clip teaching for topics with accompanying online tasks - they give an option for either online/interactive or printable questions

 Studyladder

Provides a mixture of online tasks/questions and printable worksheets - no teaching/tutorial input for the maths section of the site.

On all these websites it is possible for the teacher to set work or for the pupil to search and complete work of their own choosing. As long as they are logged into their profile, this will save automatically for their teacher to be able to see.

Free School Meals

The school is keen to support families who are in receipt of free school meals. We have received a government statement advising us that a national scheme to address this is being set up. In the meantime, we will be sending home Tesco vouchers to all eligible families. We will send out further information regarding the government response as soon as we can.
